What is a Call To Action (CTA)?

When a user finds and reads your content, you would likely want them to take some action afterward, either read another post, make a purchase, or download something. To persuade them to take an action, you will need a call to action (CTA).

CTA encourages your audience to take deliberate action. You can get someone’s information through a good CTA, and add the audience into your marketing funnel, which the final goal is to make deals with your customers. Here are some common types of CTA.

(1) Pay Per Click (PPC)

A pay-per-click call to action appears labeled on the search engine results page. If you see the word ‘Ad’ in bold, it indicates that it is a paid search result. If you click on the link, the website will need to pay the search engine. Although PPC seems similar to a regular result, it will provide more space for meta descriptions and more links would appear. There is more content to persuade your users to take action and click on your link, rather than through organic search results.

(2) Website Landing Pages

Landing pages are designed to prompt an action from the users. That action could be subscribing to a newsletter, entering name and email address, or registering for an event. It often will offer something in exchange for your action, so a CTA on the landing page might be something such as “try for free”, “subscribe”, “sign up”, “get started”, and “learn more”. Notice that these CTAs don’t require you to pay, they are enticing you to make your commitments without spending any money.

(3) SEO Meta Descriptions

The meta description you use with your search engine results can also be a call to action. When the people can’t determine if your page is useful, they will read the meta description. Therefore, plan your meta description properly, ensure that it brings up some information that you would like to deliver to your audiences. You have around 160 characters on the meta descriptions to entice people to click through the link and read your website content.
